A unique, educational, networking event designed to showcase Guatemala as a spectacular destination for weddings, honeymoons, and romance. Guatemala Romantica will bring Wedding Planners and Travel Agents from North America, together for the opportunity to meet with top Guatemalan hotels and suppliers, and the chance to experience this romantic destination in a way you never have before! This event will enable all participants to discover the breathtaking country of Guatemala!

Lake Atitlán is a body of water in a massive volcanic crater in Guatemala’s southwestern highlands. Ringed by steep, verdant hills, it’s known for its Mayan villages and volcanoes with striking pointed cones. The busy town of Panajachel, where vendors sell traditional textiles, is a popular gateway to the lake. On a former coffee plantation, the Atitlán nature reserve offers trails and a butterfly gardens.

Anita was born in Antigua Guatemala and studied for her degree in Tourist Marketing in Florence, Italy. After finishing school, she had the opportunity to work with The Peninsula Hotels in Chicago as the Department Manager in Food & Beverage. Anita currently works in the family business in Antigua as the Marketing Manager of 4 restaurants and a Boutique Hotel.  As a Tourism Specialist, Anita is very active in different Associations and Organizations that promote Guatemala. 
She is Vice President of the Weddings & Honeymoons Trade Association, Co-Founder of “Wed In Guatemala”, and the Secretary on the Board of Directors of the "Chamber of Tourism, CAMTUR”. 
Anita is actively involved with Promoting Guatemala and believes it is a hidden treasure yet to be discovered. She is proud of her country, and most importantly, her wish is to share the richness of Guatemala with the world. She believes Guatemala offers genuine hospitality and an unforgettable cultural experience.

DAVID YATES

Destination Events & Hospitality Expert in Lake Atitlán

Originally from the US state of Ohio, David Yates first came to Guatemala as a high school exchange student. After graduating university, his career took him to live in Asia for more than a decade, however Guatemala and Lake Atitlan in particular, always held a special place in his heart. Fifteen years ago David returned to Guatemala to design and build La Casa Colibri, a spacious vacation rental villa that looks out upon Lake Atitlan and its surrounding volcanoes. The success of this property as a vacation rental and venue for weddings and events led David to establish Guatemala Luxury Vacation Rentals, a boutique high-end vacation rental and event planning company, based at beautiful Lake Atitlan. David and his team of bilingual staff strive to provide comprehensive customer service, from pre-trip or event planning to detailed coordination while in Guatemala. JULIO ACEITUNO

Antigua Tours & Hotel Sor Juana

Julio was born in Antigua Guatemala, and is the direct product of the tourism in Guatemala. His father is Guatemalan and his mother is from the United States. He has lived in Guatemala City, the United States and Italy.

He studied Psychology and Hospitality at City College in San Francisco, and graduated as an Executive Chef in Culinary Arts at California Culinary Academy. He has worked in the family business at Antigua Tours since 1998 and was the owner of Hotel Casa Concepcion from 2008 since 2012. Julio has been the designer and creator of Hotel Sor Juana since 2012. He worked at Paula Le Educ in the food and beverage area, and was the link between the kitchen and decoration team assisting the Master of decoration, Stanlees Gatti, where he learned to achieve high levels of standards required from clients.

During this period, he had the honor of collaborating on events for: King Juan Carlos de España, Robin Williams, George Lucas, Arnold Schwarzenegger as Governor, Bono from U2, Kate Moss, and the Getty family from California.

Companies included in his portfolio are: Tiffany & CO, Prada, Hermes, William Sonoma, and Gap Inc. His events have also been featured in magazines such as: Martha Stewart, Style Me Pretty, People, Uk brides, and Modern Bride China.

Julio has been a member of many associations including:

- FILIAL (2008)
- Active member and Founder of the Asociación Destino Guatemala (since 2010)
- Founding member and the former President of Gremial de Bodas y Destino Luna de Miel in Guatemala from (2014 – 2017)

Julio has helped to develop the Destination Wedding industry in Guatemala since 2009.

ELIZABETH BELL

Elizabeth Bell, a resident of Antigua for 49 years, was born in Burlingame, California, grew up in Palo Alto, and moved to Antigua Guatemala at the age of 14. She graduated from the University of San Carlos in Guatemala (1976) and attended graduate school at the University of Washington (ABT). Elizabeth managed the city of Antigua through the Consejo Nacional Para la Protección de La Antigua Guatemala (1978-87) and received a certificate in Architectural Conservation at ICCROM/UNESCO in Rome (1983) and a certificate in Heritage and Tourism from the CNCRM in Havana (1997).
She founded Antigua Tours in Antigua Guatemala in 1992, a company that offers tourism throughout Guatemala with emphasis on professional cultural tourism. Elizabeth has conducted cultural tours and given lectures since 1992 and has guided many of the top visitors to Antigua Guatemala.
Her greatest joy, however, is researching the city. She received the Guatemalan government s highest award for her preservation efforts in Antigua the Gold Award Diego de Porres by the National Council for the Protection of La Antigua Guatemala on December 1st, 2011 for her tireless efforts during 42 years in providing useful information about La Antigua Guatemala through her multiple books and lectures and her constant efforts in the preservation of the City and its Cultural Heritage. She has authored "Antigua Guatemala: the City and its Heritage", "La Antigua Guatemala: la ciudad y su patrimonio", "Lent and Holy Week/Cuaresma y Semana Santa La Antigua Guatemala" and coloring books: "Let's See Antigua/Conozcamos La Antigua", "Fiestas and Holidays in Antigua/Conozcamos Nuestras Tradiciones en La Antigua", "Let's See Santo Domingo in Antigua Guatemala/Conozcamos Santo Domingo" and "Let's Save the Scarlet Macaws in the Rainforest of Petén, Guatemala"
